3 Epiphany, Year C (2010)

3 Epiphany, Year C (2010) Nehemiah 8:1-2, 5-6, 8-10 I Corinthians 12:12-31a Luke 4:14-21 Come, Holy Spirit, take our hearts and our minds and unite us in the bond of Love. Amen. Today’s text from Corinthians is so familiar that it’s easy to let the words enter one ear and go straight out the other. [...]

2 Epiphany, Year C (2010)

2 Epiphany, Year C (2010) I Cor 12:1-11 John 2:1-11 In the name of the One, Holy and Living God. Amen. An Epiphany is a divine manifestation – an event through which God is revealed to the world. Today we find ourselves in the season of Epiphany, the season which began January 6th when we [...]

Proper 27(B): Mark 12:38-44

Proper 27, Yr. B (2009) I Kings 17:8-16 Mark 12:38-44 Some years ago when I was a senior in college I decided to train for a bike race that was quite a prestigious event at the school. It was a unique event in that it really was a relay race. Each dorm had a team [...]

Proper 25, Mark 10:46-52

Proper 25, Year B (2009) Mark 10:46-52 In the name of God: who was, and is and is to come. Amen. “What do you want me to do for you?” Does that question sound familiar? That’s the same question that Jesus asked James and John in last week’s gospel story after they boldly approached Jesus [...]

Easter Day: John 20:1-18

It was in darkness that Jesus was born. It was in darkness that Jesus rose from the dead. It is often in our own darkness where we meet God. Today’s gospel begins, “Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb.” We don’t know exactly [...]

5 Lent, Yr B: John 12:20-33

The hour has come! This is a new proclamation. Up until this point in the Gospel according to John every reference to Jesus’ hour has been in the negative. At the wedding in Cana, Jesus said to his mother, “My hour has not yet come.” Later in Jerusalem we hear, “They tried to arrest him, [...]

Last Epiphany, Year B

2 Kings 2:1-12 Mark 9:2-9 Where is God? How do we experience God? What difference does it make? These are the central questions we hear in today’s readings. Dear, old Elijah has come to the end of his life here on earth, and today we hear the story of his wandering from place to place [...]

3 Epiphany: Mark 1:14-20

Life is full of decisions. Some are small, and some are big. Every single day we make thousands of decisions, some of which we aren’t even aware we’re making because they are so routine. When the alarm goes off, we have to decide if we’re going to hit the snooze button – and how many [...]
